BUCKY RESCUE OUTFIT

The Bucky Rescue outfit as its called I thought deserved its own page because so many people have tried to emulate that costume since the movie premiered. And in truth it's really the easiest Cap costume to achieve. Not the cheapest by far, especially if you are going for period authenticity but still an easier Captain America costume to pull off than say the Classic Comic Book/USO version or even the Ultimate version or even the red, white & blue of the WWII costume version.
There is actually very little Cap items needed for the Bucky Rescue since most of it is regular WWII combat paratrooper wear.
You only need three actual Captain America related items:
1. M1 WWII Cap Helmet painted navy blue with the white letter 'A' emblazoned on the front of it.
2.  Classic Captain America style shirt. Matching the film shirt the blue area should be navy in color.
3. The 'Heater' style triangular shield.

And that's it. Everything else is just reproduction WWII Paratrooper gear and a brown leather jacket,
and infantryman equipment such as leggings, a Garand ammo belt, paratrooper boots pants and goggles, suspenders, pouches, U.S. Army leather holster and a Colt .45 1911 pistol to complete the look.
And unlike all the other version of Cap gear, you don't even need a mask unless you want one but then that would fall under the regular WWII Captain America Costume category.
All in all the gear is very easy to find online, either original WWII equipment or reproduction for re-enactment enthusiasts who want to storm the beaches of Normandy all over again. And if you know any groups in your area that do so, once you have all your gear tell them they can do it again, but this time with Captain America on their side!

No.1. First your going to need a classic Captain America uniform shirt, I have mine from eBay which is made by Graffiti Designs. It's a perfect high quality Cap Costume shirt with stars on both front and back, of course I have white sleeves sewn into the shirt which made it even more perfect. You'll probably have to do that same with any Cap uniform T-Shirt. Sadly they don't produce the shirt that I have anymore, but here is a very close second choice available from Mad Engine:

No.2. The helmet. Nick Howard runs a very good operation that sells original military equipment and he has a number of Captain America related items most notably an excellent WWII M1 Army helmets that come painted and can be used for a number of WWII style Captain America outfits. Nick will also do a custom paint as well if you want it dead on to the film with a darker navy blue paint scheme and smaller 'A' set higher on the helmet:

N.3. Here's a place called Logan's Closet, they make replica jackets from films and carry an exact duplicate of the red-brown jacket worn by Chris Evans in the First Avenger:

No.4. Correct WWII style leather Paratrooper Jump Boots are available at By The Sword, that's where I ordered mine from and they are wonderful!  Just takes a little bit of breaking them in to get used to them, I also recommend inserts and thick socks!

No.5. This seems to be a good source for replica WWII Paratrooper Jump Pants:

No.6. Reproduction Garand Ammo Belts are pretty common, you can find them on Amazon.com and other places. You can get them in various shades of Khaki, Olive Green, Brown and even Blue.
I wanted mine to be more of a dark Khaki color was happy when I received it. here are some resource links for ordering:

No.7. The all important 'Heater' style, 1940's original triangular shield.
Whether you make your own or get an expensive replica like the Museum Replica's version from eBay that is no longer being sold you really can't do a proper Bucky Rescue or even Golden Age Captain America costume without the right shield. Here are resources for different versions of Cap's original shield. The one I have is the steel shield with the one black handle and leather strap. For $60 or so odd dollars it's a very good deal and a nice quality metal shield.
